CN employees who are members of Unifor voted in favor of a strike over the past week.

Two sections of the union, National Council 4000 and Local 100, voted 97% and 96% respectively for a strike, according to a Unifor press release.

This pressure tactic will be triggered if an agreement with CN is not reached by 1is January 2025.

“This overwhelming majority sends a clear message to NC that our members are united and ready to take action to get the fair treatment and respect they deserve,” said Lana Payne, President of Unifor National, in the press release.

The National Council 4000 represents more than 3,300 workers in the customer service, administrative and mechanical operations sectors.

Local 100, for its part, represents approximately 2,100 workers, including mechanics and heavy equipment operators.

Negotiations between CN and Unifor resume in Montreal from November 25 to December 8.

Union members are demanding in particular better job security, fair remuneration and better working conditions.
