The Swiss airline expects a double-digit increase in the number of passengers and the number of its flights during the summer season.

The punctuality and stability of the summer flight plan, which runs from the end of March to the beginning of October, are at the heart of the priorities, it indicated to the press on Monday. The company expects a 13% increase in flights and a 12% increase in passengers compared to the 2023 summer season, it outlines in its forecasts.

Cancellations are expected to increase by around a quarter. The most common problems are technical difficulties and weather conditions, Swiss Chief Operating Officer Oliver Buchhofer said at a press conference at Zurich Airport.

Swiss also has to deal with the geopolitical situation in several airspaces. In some cases, changing air routes to avoid areas of tension means extending flight times and increasing costs, Buchhofer explained. There is no sign of any easing of these tensions in the future.

The airline continues to invest in staff training, in a context of labor shortage. Over the past two years, 2,000 crew members have been hired.

“We are confident in our good preparation to ensure the smooth running of our activities but at the same time, we are aware of the difficulty of the context in which we are operating,” the manager summarized.
