Highway extensions

To combat bottlenecks, the Federal Council wants to widen six motorway sections in Switzerland, including the portion of the A1 between Le Vengeron (GE) and Nyon (VD) in French-speaking Switzerland. The projects aim to relieve congestion in surrounding towns and communities.

An alliance led by the Transport and Environment Association (ATE) as well as the active-trafiC environmentalist association is at the origin of the referendum. These organizations consider motorway extensions to be too expensive and contrary to Switzerland’s climate objectives.

Uniform financing of care services

The uniform financing of outpatient and inpatient services (EFAS) provides that the same distribution key is used to finance care. The project should make it possible to rebalance the coverage of hospital costs between health insurance companies and cantons.

For the Public Services Union (SSP), at the origin of the referendum, financing through taxes – by the cantons – is too low. Opponents also fear harmful consequences for caregivers and patients.

Double referendum on tenancy law

A double reform of tenancy law is submitted to the people. The first object grants more latitude to owners to oppose the subletting of their property. The second revision concerns termination for own purposes: it aims to simplify early terminations for the lessor’s own use.

At the origin of the double referendum, the Association for the Defense of Tenants (Asloca) is fighting the reform of Parliament. She sees this as a dismantling of tenant protection mechanisms, in particular against unfair dismissals. Landlords will be able to terminate leases more easily, opponents say.
