Since 2018, all guests from Crans-Montana, Icogne and Lens staying in holiday accommodation (hotels, campsites, youth hostels, etc.) pay the tourist tax per night and owners of second homes pay an annual package (they have the possibility of collecting the tax from their hosts and keeping it).
In accordance with the law on tourism, the total amount collected by taxes is entirely used in the interest of taxable persons and tourism development. However, the current system does not cover all expenses linked to tourism development. Municipalities must compensate for the significant shortfall with money from taxes.
Citizens of the municipalities of Crans-Montana, Icogne and Lens pay more than 8 million francs for tourist services through their taxes. This weighs heavily on municipal budgets, preventing the allocation of funds to development projects.
By increasing the tourist tax by 2 francs (it would increase to 5 francs per night), this would help to reduce the current excess expenditure of municipalities for the provision of tourist services and infrastructure. Likewise, the package would be increased.
Everyone will benefit from this progress: residents, holiday accommodation owners, visitors, operators, etc.
The Primary Assemblies, convened on December 16, 2024, will be invited to vote on this new regulation. The Council of the Municipality of Crans-Montana recommends that citizens accept the regulations on the tourist tax as submitted.
