Rome, Italy, and Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, are the most popular destinations for Canadians this summer, according to data from Air Transat.

For families with children aged 5 and under, Punta Cana is the most popular city for those who have chosen the airline, between June and August 2024, while those with older children prefer to go to Rome, the capital of Italy.

“It’s clear that in the early years of parenthood, adults want to travel where they can relax, recuperate and settle in by a pool or on a beach. Once children outgrow the stroller, more parents are opting for educational destinations that can broaden their horizons, particularly Rome, where families never run out of activities and discoveries,” explained Xavier Szwengler, vice-president, marketing and loyalty at Transat, in a press release Thursday.

Favorite cities according to generations

Overall, Rome, Paris, London and Lisbon are the most popular destinations for adults. Millennials, those aged 25 to 40, seem to have a penchant for short stays and in the South, such as Cancun and Punta Cana.

Conversely, Generation X (people aged 41 to 55) and baby boomers (aged 56 to 75) prefer trips of more than two weeks to Paris, Rome, Athens, Porto or Lisbon, according to Air Transat data.
