Since the dissolution of the National Assembly and the announcement of new legislative elections, the various parties have been speaking one after the other to present their electoral programs. Salaries are one of the subjects that animate the campaign debates. When it comes to better worker pay, each coalition has its preference on how to get there.

Currently, what is almost certain is that the minimum wage is expected to increase a second time this year. Indeed, after having progressed in January, the Banque de France is considering a further increase in the minimum wage in a few months. « There should be an automatic revaluation of the minimum wage in the third quarter, when the price index excluding tobacco exceeds 2% »assured Olivier Garnier, general director of the Banque de France in charge of statistics, economic studies and international relations.

Currently set at 1,398.96 euros net per month, the inter-professional growth minimum wage could therefore exceed 1,400 euros net per month in 2024. Indeed, according to a study by the economic research institute Rexecode, carried out on 3,000 business leaders, nearly 17% of employees in the private sector were affected by the increase in the minimum wage in 2023.

How do the RN, the NFP and the macronie plan to increase wages?

With such a rate of “smicardisation”, the New Popular Front has announced its intention to increase the minimum wage if it succeeds in taking the reins of government. In short, the NFP wants to increase the minimum wage by 14%, or 200 euros. With such an increase, the minimum wage would rise to nearly 1,600 euros net per month. As for other employees, the New Popular Front has announced its intention to index income according to inflation. Finally, the NFP is committed to increasing civil servants’ salaries by nearly 10%, by revaluing the index point.

On the side of the National Rally, the idea is rather to allow companies which increase the salaries of their workers to benefit from an exemption from employer contributions. Jordan Bardella also announced the opening of a social conference with the social partners around the “level of wages” in the fall, reports Le Parisien.

Finally, regarding the presidential camp, it is rather a question of boosting the value sharing bonus (Macron Bonus). During a recent speech, the current Prime Minister, Gabriel Attal, committed to raising the PPV ceiling from 3,000 to 10,000 euros. The current presidential majority is also committed to returning to a tax exemption for the Macron bonus.
