BMW redesigns the X3 for 2025
BMW presents its new X3, a versatile SUV that enters its fourth generation with various aesthetic, technical and technological modifications. The improvements affect both the 4-cylinder and 6-cylinder variants, accompanied by a change in model designations. The new models will be designated by the BMW X3 30 xDrive and X3 M50 xDrive badges, ditching the letter “i” which previously signaled fuel injection. This generation adds a chapter to the history of the BMW X3, the brand’s best-selling X model in 2023.

The fourth generation of the BMW X3 sports a new exterior design language, giving it an almost monolithic appearance with proportions typical of the BMW assured. The BMW Iconic Glow contour lighting system, which surrounds each element of the grille, comes standard on the X3 M50 xDrive and optional on the X3 30 xDrive. The LED headlights, now with stacked L-shaped daytime running lights, side marker lights and turn signals, add a modern touch to the vehicle. Additionally, full LED headlights with cornering light functions and blue design details can be added as an option. The new X3 is distinguished by its new side skirts and a roofline that extends deep to the rear, emphasizing its sporty silhouette. At the rear, the very flared wheel arches accentuate the impression of width. The recessed rear window is framed by a long roof spoiler and side air deflectors. The X3 30 xDrive models feature exhaust outlets discreetly integrated into the rear apron. The taillights feature a new interpretation of the ‘T’ shaped graphic, accompanied by a satin horizontal bar with integrated turn signals, giving them a very modern appearance.

A mild hybridization for the two blocks of the X3

The interior of the new German SUV is distinguished by several innovations, including a new curved screen, a BMW interaction bar, a flat-bottomed steering wheel and a new gear selector. Among the specific features of this model are bright elements in contrasting colors on the center console and door trims. These light elements are placed at the front of the driver and front passenger doors, framing the function buttons, ventilation controllers, air vents, as well as the robust door handles typical of the X Series models.

The new BMW X3 comes as standard with electrically adjustable and heated sports seats, available in three perforated Veganza colours of the customer’s choice. An optional M Veganza/Alcantara combination in black and two shades of Extended Merino leather are offered. New to the BMW range, the woven fabric dashboard is also available as an option. This dashboard, made from recycled polyester, features a premium knitted texture, adding an eco-friendly and luxurious touch to the interior. The BMW X3 M50 xDrive is powered by a 3.0-litre six-cylinder engine, combined with a 48-volt hybrid system, developing an output of 393 hp between 5,200 and 6,250 rpm. This mild hybrid system, comprising a crankshaft-mounted starter-generator, provides instant response to every press of the accelerator and optimises fuel efficiency. The electric motor, integrated into the eight-speed Steptronic transmission, can supplement the power of the combustion engine or reduce its load depending on driving requirements. In addition, an extremely rigid engine mount, specific to this model, further improves the engine’s responsiveness.

The BMW X3 30 xDrive features a 2.0-liter TwinPower Turbo 4-cylinder engine, delivering instant power, according to BMW. In addition to 48-volt mild hybrid technology, this performance results from significant improvements to the base engine. Innovations include the Miller cycle, which reduces intake valve opening time, as well as redesigned intake ports and combustion chambers. The ignition system uses an active coil with integrated electronics, and mixture preparation is optimized by a new dual injection system.

In addition to the existing high-pressure injection system, part of the fuel is now injected into the combustion chambers via a low-pressure system. At the same time, the performance of the supercharging system and intercooler has been improved. Switchable rocker arms on the exhaust side of the Valvetronic variable valve timing system enable purely electric driving at very low revs. The new powertrain generates a maximum power of 255 hp between 4,700 and 6,500 rpm, allowing the X3 30 xDrive to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in six seconds.
