Rail traffic was disrupted for a good part of Monday morning between Lausanne and Geneva, due to exceptional works which continued in Renens. Thousands of commuters have seen their trains canceled and replaced by buses.
The switches located to the west of Renens station are the cause of the significant disruption to rail traffic. The renewal of these installations was carried out overnight from Sunday to Monday, but the work took longer than expected. Consequence: thousands of travelers saw their trains canceled and replaced by buses from 5 a.m. Monday morning.
A large part of the lines were restored by 7:30 a.m. and traffic was able to resume normally at the end of the morning. To avoid such situations, the CFF has been trying for some time to increase night work during weekends and no longer during the middle of the week.
“We concentrated the work (in Renens) and unfortunately the work was still delayed,” explains Jean-Philippe Schmidt, CFF spokesperson, interviewed on Monday in 12:45 p.m.
Night work in Geneva is announced next weekend. The station will be completely closed to rail traffic from 7 p.m. Saturday until 3 p.m. Sunday.
