Geneva (awp) – Producer and import prices in Switzerland fell in October, in monthly comparison and even more compared to last year.
In October, the producer and import price index (PPI) contracted by 0.3% compared to September and now stands at 106.9 points. It is mainly the prices of watches, petroleum products and machines that have fallen, reports the Federal Statistical Office (FSO) on Friday in a press release.
In terms of import prices, it is above all watches that have become cheaper. Machinery, medical and dental instruments, petroleum products and gas also saw price declines. On the other hand, those of electrical wires and cables, as well as electrical installation equipment, increased.
The decline in the import price index over one month is primarily due to petroleum products and machinery. Price reductions were also noted for communications equipment, electrical equipment, metal products, furniture, medical and dental instruments and supplies and steel. Hydrocarbons, ferrous metals and products made from these materials, vegetables, melons and potatoes, as well as green coffee, on the other hand, have increased in price.
Compared to October 2023, the price drop in the total supply of indigenous and imported products reaches 1.8%.
