With the release of the iPhone 15 Pro (and Pro Max) last year, Apple began using titanium for the chassis of its devices. If the iPhone 16 retains an aluminum casing, this is not the case for the two high-end models, which differentiate themselves with the use of this new material, more resistant and lighter.
A difference in weight which can be seen on the technical sheet of the phones, but which is especially felt when using them. Thus, iPhones made of titanium are described as much lighter in the hand, because their weight is distributed more uniformly.
A bigger, but lighter phone
With an increase in the size of the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max (which went from 6.1 and 6.7 inch screens to 6.3 and 6.9 inch diagonal panels) we could expect see the weight of these smartphones increase a little. But in reality, titanium makes these iPhones even lighter than the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max, which are nevertheless smaller.
The figures leave no room for doubt, the iPhone 16 Pro weighs 199 grams while the iPhone 14 Pro weighs 206 g. Although the difference seems insignificant, it is actually very significant, and users notice it from the first use. When it comes to the Pro Max models, the screen is even more impressive.
An iPhone 17 Slim, light and thin?
The iPhone 16 Pro Max weighs 227 grams on the scale while the iPhone 14 Pro Max weighs 240. A remarkable difference when we keep in mind that one of the phones is significantly larger than the other. In addition to having gained in height, the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max have slightly gained in depth compared to older models. They are now 3 millimeters thick. It is also rumored that Apple would like to work on this point for the next generation of iPhone with a “Slim” model in preparation in Cupertino.
