Around 415 additional positions will be lost at Migros Industrie, the vast majority at food producer Delica, the distribution giant announced on Tuesday. The group also announces that 20 of its 37 Melectronics stores will be taken over by Mediamarkt, while the others will close.

In the future, Migros Industrie will focus on its role as an integrated producer for the Migros Group in Switzerland, its key market, and on the production of own brands for third parties, the group said in a press release.

This reorientation will lead to the elimination of around 255 positions at the food producer Delica, including 190 in Switzerland, 45 positions at the dairy processor Elsa Group and 65 positions at the Zurich site of Migros Industrie. In the latter case, only eight people will be offered a new position.

Delica will also withdraw from certain production activities: the Frey International brand and the coffee bean and ground coffee brands will no longer be sold in Germany. Sixty-five jobs are affected in this country.

Three brands sold

In total, around 415 positions will be lost at Migros Industrie. This measure is part of the restructuring of the Migros group announced at the beginning of February, which provides for the elimination of nearly 1,500 jobs out of the approximately 100,000 in the group. A social plan is planned.

In addition, Migros has also made the decision to initiate sales processes for the specialist markets Micasa (furniture and decorations), Bike World (bicycles and accessories) and Do it + Garden (DIY and gardening).

A “restructuring” already underway

As for the SportX sales process, launched in February, it is “on track”, says the press release. The ten OBI stores operated by the orange giant in Switzerland will, however, be retained.

In mid-May, Migros had already announced the elimination of 150 full-time positions by July 1 within its Supermarket subsidiary, based at the headquarters of the Federation of Migros Cooperatives in Zurich, as part of its restructuring.
