Expanded capabilities enable deeper analyzes of stock and bond data.

Bank of New York Mellon Corporation (“BNY”) (NYSE: BK), a global financial services company, announces the expansion of its iFlow product offerings1with deeper analyzes of stock and bond data. iFlow provides insight into the trade flows of BNY’s $50 trillion in assets under custody and/or administration and reveals global asset allocation trends and market reactions for managers and asset owners.

With this expanded capability, iFlow will now be able to generate charts on demand for the so-called Shorts, Holdings and Positioning categories, complementing the view of existing flows. This allows for a clearer understanding of equity market rotations, credit and bond duration and ultimately improves benchmark definitions and portfolio construction.

iFlow will now provide the following information on bonds and stocks:

  • iFlow Shorts: Aggregates short-term interest metrics that capture borrowing and lending behavior, helping portfolio managers make decisions on constructing their portfolios.
  • iFlow Holdings: Reflects investors’ exposure to the stock and bond markets, showing an aggregated view of how investors have allocated their capital by country, sector, credit rating and maturity.
  • iFlow Positioning: measures investment preferences based on aggregate investor positioning, showing capital deployment by country sectors vis-à-vis other asset classes and benchmarks.

The new indicators are designed to provide more transparency into unexpected market movements and show how markets have behaved in the past, helping to determine potential vulnerabilities that may have led to shocks.

“Finding ways to distill and understand market data continues to be one of the most important priorities for our clients. The challenge today is no longer having access to vast sets of market data, but finding ways to unpack and use that information,” said Jason Vitale, Head of Global Markets Trading at BNY. “With our unique perspective as a company touching a fifth of the world’s ‘investable’ assets, and with our extensive iFlow capabilities, we are able to help our clients better understand the markets worldwide.”

1 iFlow is an in-depth analysis provided by BNY’s market strategy team. Launched in 2010, iFlow provides insights based on anonymized and aggregated flows collected from over $50 trillion in assets under custody and/or administration, designed to provide market color to asset managers on global financial markets.
