The chief executive officer of the American aircraft manufacturer Boeing, Dave Calhoun will be heard on June 18 by a United States Senate commission of inquiry concerning production problems at the aircraft manufacturer.

Announced Wednesday in a press release, this hearing follows the one held on April 17 when four whistleblowers spoke of safety problems in the production of three of the four commercial aircraft currently produced by Boeing (737 MAX, 787 Dreamliner and 777).

I look forward to hearing Mr. Calhoun’s testimony, which is a necessary step to properly address Boeing’s failings, to regain public trust, and to restore the company’s central position in the U.S. economy and national defense.“, indicated Democratic Senator Richard Blumenthal, chairman of the commission of inquiry, quoted in the press release.

Boeing has had production problems throughout 2023 on several of these models. But an in-flight incident on January 5 on an Alaska Airlines 737 MAX 9 increased the pressure on the manufacturer.

Several audits and investigations, including one carried out by the American civil aviation regulator (FAA), have identified numerous problems of “non-compliance” and defects, particularly in quality control.

On May 30, the group presented a “ complete action plan » demanded at the end of February by the FAA to remedy these problems. In the meantime, the regulator has notably frozen the manufacturing rate of the 737 MAX, its flagship aircraft.
