Owners and tenants are at loggerheads with just over two weeks to go before the votes on the two subjects linked to tenancy law. The Airbnb case entered the campaign, becoming a key theme in the debates. According to its supporters, the revision will notably prevent subletting from being used for speculative purposes and remove from the market housing that the population needs in times of shortage, for the benefit of accommodation platforms.

In the future, tenants will have to send a written request to the landlord if they wish to sublet their accommodation. And the lessor must also respond in writing. The latter may also refuse the sublet if it lasts more than two years. By tightening the rules, parliament also wanted to slow down the growth of platforms.
