Death of a young scooter rider in the Pays de Gex

Road drama, Monday evening, in the Pays de Gex, on the border between Ain and Haute-Savoie, announces “Le Dauphiné Libéré”.

A first accident, resulting in material damage, took place between two vehicles around 7:30 p.m., in the town of Péron. One of the drivers fled.

He then hit a scooter head-on. Following the very violent impact, the driver of the two-wheeler – a 25-year-old young man – died. Firefighters and rescue teams tried to resuscitate him, to no avail.

Ongoing investigation

The at-fault motorist continued to flee, despite the violence of the collision. Throughout the night, a large search system was deployed by the Gex gendarmerie company to find him. Finally, he was taken into custody on Tuesday morning. He would be from the Pays de Gex. The investigation continues.

This is the second fatal accident for a young person in the border region in the space of a few days. On October 25 in , a 23-year-old man lost his life, hit by a driver under the influence of drugs and alcohol. ■
