On a Ryanair flight between Milan and Valencia, a man disrupted the peace of other travelers. The plane then turned around to take him out.
Holidays do not normally start on the plane, except for this Spaniard who thought he was in a cocktail bar, reports the Spanish weekly El Caso. The traveler on his way to Milan, on a flight from Valencia, allowed himself to light a cigarette and stand as if he were on a bar terrace. After half an hour of flight, after trying to reason with him, the crew members decided to turn around and take the man off the plane.
Expelled from the plane by the Guardia Civil, the man who appeared to be intoxicated disembarked “without further incident”, according to the weekly. But he will have to wait to see Milan since the Boeing 737-8AS, from which he was taken, left without him. The aircraft also arrived at its destination a hundred minutes late.
Risks of heavy sanctions
El Caso does not indicate whether the riotous traveler has been arrested or taken into custody or whether he will be prosecuted. What is certain is the total ban on smoking on an airplane since 2000 and its adoption by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).
The rules are almost the same for most airlines, including Air France, according to the scientific magazine It interests me. Typically, people caught smoking receive a verbal warning. A fine of 10,000 euros can also be given as well as a ban on flying in a company plane for two years. In the most serious cases, a report is made to the authorities, which may result in legal action.
