Saved by his metal chain: man narrowly survives gunshot wound

A Colorado man narrowly escaped death Tuesday when the chain he wore around his neck protected him from a bullet that went straight into his torso after an argument that escalated.

“This silver chain – about ten millimeters wide – is probably the only reason the shooting victim we responded to yesterday is still alive […] Just incredible,” the Commerce City Police Department in Colorado posted on Facebook on Wednesday.

The police force shared impressive images on Wednesday in which we can see the bullet still lodged in the bloody jewelry, NBC News reported on Sunday.

According to initial reports, the victim was targeted by the .22 caliber bullet following an argument, but escaped with only a puncture wound thanks to the thick chain.

“Note: We don’t know what type of metal this is, but it’s probably not pure silver. We checked it… and the money is flexible,” said Commerce City Police Department.

For his part, the suspect in the attack was reportedly arrested at the scene, and would now face charges of attempted homicide. The identity of the victim and her alleged attacker has not been released by police.

Visibly impressed by the turn of this story, the police concluded their publication on a humorous note, calling on citizens to think “twice” when purchasing jewelry, since a mixed alloy can be snubbed for its lack of purity, but has other qualities.
