Several Moroccan and foreign companies prepare food and cosmetic products based on cannabis. Among the products offered: white and milk chocolate as well as digestive infusions. For producers, commercial success will indeed be there.

Legal cannabis is about to become part of consumption habits in Morocco. And it’s not just its medicinal and therapeutic aspects that are highlighted. There are also certain food forms that are offered on the market. Thus, Moroccan companies, supported by foreign investors, are launching cannabis-based chocolates and infusions from next June. It is the Moroccan company, Kyff, a subsidiary of Oksa Group, which is behind this project to create a range of food products.

The products that will be marketed are made from kif harvested in the Chefchaouen region. Among the products offered: white and milk chocolate which will be marketed in the form of 5 gram Napolitains or 100 gram bars. There will also be digestive infusions based on cannabis mixed with other aromatic plants such as carob, rosemary and cinnamon. Other companies also plan to market cannabis products, including dietary supplements and cosmetic care lines, such as shampoos and massage oils.

Extraction of cannabis oils
This is particularly the case of the company, Somacan and the company Canaer. For example, it plans to launch into the extraction of cannabis oils, the potential of which represents more than 20% of the market.

It must be said that the regulation of cannabis in Morocco and its medicinal virtues are beginning to take hold in public debates. This subject was in particular at the center of a meeting, organized on Friday May 17, 2024 in Casablanca by the Moroccan Federation of Pharmaceutical Industry and Innovation, whose president, Mohamed El Bouhmadi, highlighted the major advances made by the Kingdom in the regulation of cannabis for medical and industrial use. To this end, he recalls the establishment of a legal framework and the creation of the National Agency for the Regulation of Activities Relating to Cannabis (ANRAC), the management of which was entrusted to the former governor of El Jadida, Mohamed El Guerrrouj.

For specialists, medicinal cannabis is emerging as a new hope in the field of health, offering a wide range of therapeutic virtues and bringing a new dimension to patient care thanks to alternative and complementary solutions to conventional treatments. The meeting, which aims in particular to contribute to positioning Morocco as a key player in the field of medicines and health products based on cannabis derivatives, was an opportunity to highlight the registration procedures of these products as well as the supporting role of the authorities to support this sector.
