Theft of at least 75 cars from Stellantis: five people in prison

Theft of at least 75 cars from Stellantis: five people in prison

For several years, an organized gang had been stealing vehicles from several French factories of the Stellantis Group. Five suspects were placed in pre-trial detention.

Their little affair, which had lasted for several years, ended last September with the arrest of nine suspects by the police. These defendants are accused ofhaving stolen dozens of vehicles from the Stellantis factories in -Sausheim and Sochaux-Montbéliard, the Mulhouse prosecutor’s office reported at the start of the week. Car thefts at Stellantis are nothing new, since seven vehicles were also stolen from the factory in the region in December 2023…

Organized gang theft and criminal conspiracy

To achieve their goals, the gang used a real Stellantis employee badge and then only had to remove one or two vehicles from the site via a park and ride, the prosecutor’s office said. “It was almost invisible as there were so many vehicles in transit and waiting on the site“. Between the start of 2022 and July 2024, the date of the last identified thefts, more than 75 vehicles from the group were stolen, in this case the Peugeot 3008, 208 and 308. Following seizures made during the searches of the nine people arrested on September 17 (luxury cars and a cash sum of €50,000 at one of them), five people in police custody, most of them with significant criminal records, were indicted for organized theft and criminal conspiracy. They face a prison sentence of up to ten years.
