For the second time in three days, an Air France aircraft, designed by the manufacturer Boeing, had to land urgently due to a hot smell in the cabin.

Bad luck for Boeing and Air France. For the second time in three days, an aircraft from the French company, built by the American aircraft manufacturer, had to make an emergency landing due to a hot smell felt in the cabin.

Air France flight 021, operated by a Boeing 777-200 and which was initially scheduled to connect Los Angeles to Paris Charles-de-Gaulle, was diverted to Montreal, Canada, where it landed at 10:13 p.m. local time, Thursday 9 may.

“It was diverted after four hours of flight, in accordance with the manufacturer’s procedures, the company’s instructions and in application of the precautionary principle,” confides the air carrier.

“The landing was carried out in the presence of the firefighters, as required by procedure,” he adds.

Firefighters on site

Images relayed on the social network X actually show the presence of several fire vehicles on the tarmac of the Montreal airport.

On-site accommodation solutions were offered to the 315 customers on board the aircraft, as well as replacement flights, on D+1 or D+2.

Earlier in the week, Tuesday May 7, an Air France Boeing 787-900 had already had to make an emergency landing due to a hot smell detected on board. He was then diverted to Iqaluit, in the far Canadian north.

Black series for Boeing

For the American manufacturer, the black series seems endless. A Fedex Express Boeing 767 cargo plane, which was flying from Paris to Istanbul, suffered a broken landing gear on Wednesday May 8. Spectacular, the incident fortunately did not cause any injuries.

On May 9, in Senegal this time, at the Diass international airport near Dakar, a Boeing 737/300 chartered by Air Senegal left the runway during takeoff, causing 11 injuries.

These various incidents occur while Boeing is the subject of several investigations across the Atlantic, by the American Civil Aviation Agency (FAA), concerning its 787 Dreamliner and 737 MAX aircraft.
