Free is the most expensive fiber operator on the market, and it’s not because of the Freebox Ultra

A shaker in the mobile plan market with its discounted price plans and effective communication, Free does not disrupt prices as much in the fiber subscription market. Quite the contrary if we are to believe the Ariase comparator for which the operator is the most expensive on the market.

A player in comparing internet boxes and mobile plans, Ariase publishes a price barometer every month and provides its analysis of the latest developments. This time, it appears that the operator with the fastest fiber network is also the most expensive, with a difference of almost 8 euros per month with the cheapest operator.

€32/month on average on the entry-level offer

One might believe that Free owes this position to its Freebox Ultra at 49.99 euros per month for the first year. In reality, Ariase based this on the price of the Freebox Revolution Light to establish this average. The comparator thus calculated the cost of a 24-month subscription, activation costs and TV decoder included, on the entry-level offers of the six operators. Here is what comes out:

  • RED by SFR (RED Box) = 24.53 euros per month
  • Sosh (The Sosh Box) = 25.99 euros per month
  • Bouygues Telecom (Bbox fit) = 28.49 euros per month
  • SFR (SFR Fiber Starter) = 29.99 euros per month
  • (Just Livebox Fiber) = 30.49 euros per month
  • Free (Freebox Revolution Light) = 32.03 euros per month

Because it did not renew the promotion which allowed you to take advantage of the Freebox Revolution Light at 24.99 euros per month, Free is relegated to last in the ranking of average prices for internet boxes.

Currently, the Freebox Révolution Light and the SFR Fiber Starter are the most expensive box offers, 29.99 euros per month with approximately the same level of services. But if SFR is on average cheaper, according to Ariase, it is because it does not apply activation fees, unlike Free where they amount to 49 euros.
