TER Bayonne-Pau-Tarbes: work planned to improve the punctuality of one of the worst lines in France

On this line 53: Bayonne-Pau-Tarbes, champion of France in terms of delays, the punctuality rate is only 70%. In the agreement signed with the region, the SNCF is committed to exceeding 90%. It’s the third worstbut despite everything it has had 84% more passengers since 2018.

Double the supply within eight years

The number of late trains should decrease, since work will take place in start of 2025. We must remove the cavities, these underground hollows near Orthez in particular which force trains to lower their speed to 40 km/h. Once the work is completed, we will save time! For the moment it takes between an hour and an hour and a half to go from Pau to Bayonne.

Other good news is that we should go from five round trips per day to six by 2027 and more than double the offer by 2032, with 12 round trips. The line is not two-way over the entire length, so it is necessary to add something to make crossings in certain places.
