After a year of 2023 at half mast, the dynamics of foreign direct investments in Morocco are picking up again in 2024, indicates Eco Life.

This dynamic is mainly driven by the positive effects of the new Investment Charter, which came into force a year ago.

According to recent statistics from the Foreign Exchange Office, the net flow of FDI stood at 5.8 billion dirhams at the end of March 2024, up 56.2% compared to the same period, a year ago.

This evolution, which Eco Life qualified for “outstanding» is explained by the sharp increase in FDI receipts of 24%, which stood at more than 9.7 billion dirhams.

Furthermore, FDI spending fell by 5.1%, reaching 3.9 billion dirhams.

For the weekly, the upward trend in the flow of FDI should continue, as the numerous investments announced and signed in recent months materialize.

According to the same Source, revenues generated by travel are declining, while tourist arrivals in the Kingdom continue on an upward trend.

These revenues thus totaled a sum estimated at 23.7 billion dirhams at the end of March 2024, compared to 24.9 billion at the end of March 2023, down 5.1%.

Expenditures generated by travel reached the sum of 7.7 billion dirhams, up 38.6% over the same period.

Ultimately, the travel balance shows a surplus of nearly 16 billion dirhams, down 17.6% year-on-year.

As for transfers of funds from the Moroccan diaspora to their country of origin, one of the country’s main sources of foreign currency, the Foreign Exchange Office indicates that these are stabilizing, after years of sharp increases.

According to Office statistics, fund transfers made by MREs reached the sum of 27.4 billion dirhams at the end of March 2024, compared to 27.5 at the end of March 2023.
