As a real estate priority, it is essential to stay informed of changes to property taxes. Each year, the basis of its calculation may in fact undergo some modifications. And the good news has come for taxpayers! Indeed, the year 2025 will bring some positive transformations according to our colleagues at Moneyvox !

Property tax on the rise in recent years

As with almost everything, property tax keeps pace with inflation. The growing increase in the latter over the last few years has not gone unnoticed by taxpayers! And this, although the tax authorities take care to adjust them as much as possible. However, we cannot deny the increase in taxes over the last three years.

In 2021 and 2022, the basis for calculating the property tax was already increasing. At the time, taxpayers suffered an increase of 4%. And things didn’t get better over time! In fact, last year it even reached 7%. But for 2025, things could change for the better for taxpayers subject to this tax!

Indeed, inflation is experiencing a notable slowdown for some time. A fact that benefits French households in many areas. Property tax is no exception to this! Initial announcements on the subject should also be of interest to property owners.

An interesting announcement to come!

The annual revaluation of cadastral rental values or VLC depends on numerous elements. Among those that particularly interest us, there is of course the harmonized consumer price index or HICP. INSEE takes this value into account several months throughout the year in order to determine possible market fluctuations.

INSEE had also revealed the provisional value of the HICP for the month of September. The latter is estimated at 1.5%. An element which already gives a clue of what the coming months could be like. Indeed, we will have to wait to know the indices for the month of November and December to have an overview of the revaluation of the property tax in 2025.

On the other hand, INSEE defined inflation for the rest of the year at 1.5% as well. This value could even fall further according to estimates. Enough to predict good news for taxpayers subject to property tax. However, it will be necessary wait until mid-December to know the real HICP which will revalue this tax.

What are the repercussions on property taxes in 2025?

In its estimates, INSEE indicates an HICP of around 2 and 1.5% for November. This indicates that things should not not much change by the end of the year. And the impact will be felt on next year’s property tax! Indeed, the good news will lighten the portfolios of property owners!

Taxpayers can therefore expect a moderate increase in property taxes in 2025. Although there will definitely be an increase, it will not be as harsh as in previous years. However, it will be necessary to take into account the provisions of the municipalities which may determine a different municipal rate.
