Over 75 years, UBA has grown from a mustard seed to a thriving global powerhouse, creating a strong footprint in 24 global locations while driving success. As part of activities marking its 75th anniversary of delivering services of excellence and global impact, Africa’s global bank, United Bank for Africa (UBA) Plc, is lifting a corner of the veil on its journey in addition to 7 decades.

A time capsule unveiled to staff and media people… The UBA time capsule in fact brings together objects or information from the last 75 years which will be preserved so that future generations can discover and learn more about the history of the global financial institution, which has grown from a small office in Lagos, Nigeria, to a financial giant with tentacles in 20 African countries as well as four key financial capitals of the world – London, , New York and Dubai.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Oliver Alawuba, Managing Director of UBA Group said it took time to lay the foundation for the next 25 and 75 years by listing the objectives of the bank in its quest to raise awareness of the Africa to the whole world. “It’s a trip down memory lane, showing everything we’ve accomplished and how we got here,” he said.

Figures and ambitions for the future

On what he foresees for the next decades for the bank, Mr. Alawuba said: “We are driven by innovation within UBA, and what we have achieved today is minimal compared to what we plan to make it when UBA is 100 or 150 years old. Today, UBA is present in 24 countries, and in the next 25 years, we will see UBA in 100 countries. Our current revenue base of $20 billion, we hope to grow to over $20 billion in the next 25 years, and by that time we also hope to be a top 10 bank to the world, because we know that the future of the world is Africa, and that the future of Africa is UBA.

He added that the bank would continue to focus on people and its customers to ensure that it adapts each of its activities, products and services to meet the growing needs of its wealthy clientele located around the world.
