the share of electric vehicles in Europe between 20 and 24% in 2025?

The European Federation for Transport and Environment T&E has just published a study according to which the projections for sales of electric vehicles in Europe are maintained between 20 and 24%. An estimate that the field does not reflect…

This is a full-scale counter-attack from the European T&E association, which believes that the upcoming new electric vehicle developments that will be launched between the end of 2024 and throughout 2025 will confirm a forecast of EV sales.between 20 and 24% of sales in Europe from next year“. This high percentage is based in particular on the arrival of “no less than 7 new models announced at less than €25,000 from the end of 2024” among which we can cite the Citroën ë-C3, Leapmotor T03, Skoda Epiq, Renault 5 E-Tech and Hyundai Inster.

By 2025, these models alone could represent up to 300,000 to 400,000 units, or 10 to 15% of the BEV market in Europe. The vast majority of these models will come from Renault and Stellantis, both of which will offer several affordable electric vehicles by 2025. These models will support the growth of the BEV market, which could reach up to 2.8 million BEVs“, insists the T&E document. In detail, T&E also announces, in addition to this 24% share of sales of electric vehicles, 9% of rechargeable hybrids, 12% of full hybrids, 37% of mild hybrids and 18% of thermal vehicles.

The fact remains that this estimate of EV sales seems very far removed (and at least optimistic, if we stick to the current figures) from the underlying discourse, which is currently spreading on the ground by professionals, as reported by autoactu.com, which made a dealer react: “The electric vehicle is more of a political demand than a customer demand. We can be concerned about the CAFE standard if manufacturers are forced to make cars that customers do not want. We are the ones who will suffer. The electric vehicle market is not mature and we are replacing electric vehicles with thermal vehicles. Used cars are often left in the park for more than 90 days. (…) The increase in the price of electric vehicles is also a real brake, with a second effect which is the increase in the interest rate and the price of a “full tank” for an EV which has increased a lot.”
