The smoothie shop based in the Marine Park neighborhood in southern Brooklyn — which has a splendid park as well as a large number of bookstores — can’t believe it.
However, at the end of November, Stéphanie, the founder, had planned this operation to give back to the community what she had given it since her installation, she says. So, she had left these gifts freely available in front of her window, and the residents helped themselves freely.
A little too freely, as an olibrius understood. “ Our donation cart filled with free puzzles and books was a way of giving back to the community, and that means a lot to me », Adds Stephanie, to Brooklyn News 12.
Because, supported by video surveillance, we are indeed witnessing the crime, in broad daylight, of a man.
«Anyone who recognizes him, ask him to return this cart: we use it to give away books and puzzles in the neighborhood. It was caught on a neighbor’s camera disposing of it in a trash can on East 35th Street.», Continues Stephanie. Who in the early days gives the thug the benefit of the doubt
A week later, the man was in fact captured by a security camera that a charitable neighbor made available: he therefore threw the toys and reading materials in the trash, leaving only the shopping cart. “I wanted to create a place where people feel connected to each other, find a certain well-being.»
« It was heartbreaking to see it stolen, but that didn’t diminish my commitment to spreading kindness and joy in the neighborhood», concludes the trader.
Since then, no news of the nuisance, but the neighborhood has mobilized, particularly sensitive to this mishap. A box, filled with books, was provided to Stéphanie, and this time, it is on a book-crossing principle that the goods circulate – we pick up or drop off:
