Two prizes for the same novel. The Jaguar’s Dream, multi-generational novel anchored in the Venezuelan landscape, was awarded the Grand Prix du Novel of the Académie Française, then the Prix Femina. A great recognition for the Franco-Venezuelan author Miguel Bonnefoy, a regular at literary prizes. Here are four other of his works, which have also received prestigious awards.
“Octavio’s Journey”
In 2014, the writer published the story of Octavio, an illiterate Venezuelan peasant in this novel published by Payot and Rivages. A “ heartbreaking encounter between a man and a country, told here in a story full of humor and poetry », Details the publisher in its presentation text. Octavio’s journey was rewarded with 6 prizes, including the Edmée de la Rochefoucauld Prize, the Fénéon Prize and the Vocation Prize, a reward intended to encourage young authors.

“Black Sugar”
Published in 2017, still by Payot and RivagesBlack sugar tells the destiny of the Otero family, who will be shaken by the search for a centuries-old treasure in the Caribbean village where their sugar cane plantation is located. A novel which can be perceived as a philosophical tale, and which has earned its author three awards, including the French Renaissance Literary Prize.

In this large fresco published in 2020 by Payot et Rivages, Miguel Bonnefoy sketches the destiny of the Lonsonier family, who came from the Jura to settle in Chile at the end of the 19th century. A dramatic historical novel, awarded the prestigious Booksellers Prize in 2021.

“The Inventor”
In 2022, Miguel Bonnefoy tells the story of Augustin Mouchot, a historical character from a modest family established in Burgundy, who will give birth to solar energy, make his discovery known to the highest authorities before being betrayed by one of his collaborators. A historical and documented book, which was awarded the Heritage Prize.
