“One month before Christmas, it’s an opportunity to stock up on gifts with inexpensive, quality books while making a social gesture,” underline Sandgy Ségu and Clément Quantin of Maison de Bégon. “Reading is leaving is, in fact, a non-profit association which operates without subsidies or profits, whose sales price of books covers all expenses. Three million copies are sold throughout France each year. Direct sales only. »
An initiative born from confinement
At Maison de Bégon, the idea started with confinement, when the libraries were closed. A batch of 1,000 albums was purchased and distributed free of charge to local families. “We invited them to come and collect them from our door. So we said to ourselves that we were going to continue, and we organized a first sale at a reduced price on the Coty market. » Since then, two sales per year have taken place in the auditorium of the Maison de Bégon where thousands of books scattered on the stalls find buyers.
The sale is open to everyone, individuals, teachers, structures such as social services, youth centers, etc. “We generally have a large selection of stories and illustrations with fifty to sixty different titles. There really is something for everyone. » And for those who cannot come on November 27, the Maison de Bégon has a small selection of albums sold at the same price all year round.
Wednesday, November 27, from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. without interruption, at the Maison de Bégon, rue Pierre-et-Marie-Curie. All means of payment accepted.
