According to data from Weekly Books/Electre Data Services, 459 novels will be published in the fall from mid-August to October. Among these new releases are 311 French novels, including 68 books by first-time novelists, as well as 148 foreign works.

By way of comparison with the fall 2023 academic year and its 466 new releases, the number of publications for 2024 is almost stable, recording a drop of only 1.5%. In detail, on the French novels side, it is a decrease of 3.1% (321 novels in 2023, compared to 311 in 2024) and a decline of almost 9% in the number of first novels (74 French first novelists in 2023 compared to 68 in 2024).

Small increase for foreign novels

Conversely, the number of foreign novels is experiencing a slight increase, going from 145 publications in 2023 to 148 in 2024. In the long term, the drop in production is significant: in 2011, 654 French and foreign novels were published (compared to 701 in 2010). ). In 2015, the literary season still included some 589 new works, and 511 in 2020.

The LH Special literary season 2024 examines category by category all French and foreign novels as well as essays and documents and is enriched with a bibliography made up of 459 publications. Within French works, the start of the school year welcomes its usual share of flagship writers such as Gael FayeMaylis de Kerangal, Amélie Nothomb, Emma Becker or Muriel Barbery. The foreign selection is not left out with world-renowned feathers like James Ellroy, Richard Ford or Mariana Enriquez.
