Every year, the Arcambal Book and Image Festival attracts hundreds of curious people and lovers of literature. There were 670 last year. The 9^e edition is organized Saturday November 23 and Sunday November 24, 2024 at theArcambal Cultural Space.

This ninth edition offers the opportunity to discover the world of publishing and bookbinding, through an original and demanding program: like every year, publishers, authors, artists, craftsmen will be present with their books, the fruit of a collaboration between photography, collage, painting and writing.

Darina Raskova is the guest of honor

The painter Darina Raskova, based in Luzech, is the guest of honor at the 2024 party. She is publishing for the first time her stories with animals, kept secret until now. This will be the one and only time she will sign her three unique books, rare objects. A meeting with the artist is planned for Saturday at 5:30 p.m.

Darina Raskova was born in Czechoslovakiain Northern Bohemia, in an industrial town on the banks of the Elbe.

“I have always been surrounded by illustrated books and it was quite natural that I started drawing since I was little. After my schooling, I left to study at the Kamenicky Senov glassmaking school in northern Bohemia, the oldest school of its kind in Europe. After graduating from this school, I moved to Prague and tried to enter the academy of fine arts. Finally I worked in the offices of Energovod (power plant installations). One day I decided to take the competition at the Barrandov cartoon workshops (Prague) where the Czech animation masters come from and I passed this competition. Unfortunately my employer didn't want to let me go and they invented a creative job for me with the company photographer. In our communist system, working was compulsory. If you were stopped by the police in the street and you didn't have your employer's stamp, you went to prison. But it was in France that I began to really work on photography and painting for myself. »

Visitors will have two days to immerse themselves in a work where lonely children wander through vast black forests, where we find the taste for miniature masterpieces of Czech enchanters, the work of light and delicious art relief and expressiveness. Darina Raskova is also an embroiderer, designer, painter, handywoman, photographer.

The other guests of the Arcambal Book and Image Festival

Several publishing houses in Lot (“Arts Pauvres éditions”, “L’étoile des Limites”, “Pluie d’étoiles”…) and elsewhere (“Le dial ligné” from Corrèze and “Drosera” from the Loire), artists (Christian Verdunthe illuminator Serge Barlan, Jean-Claude Loubières…) and authors (Anne-Marie Beeckman, Yves Leclair, Marie Droullé, Alain Prillard, Gilles Lades…) will be present in Arcambal. They will present their work to visitors.

Saturday and Sunday, Béatrice Jaques, from the bookstore “La Petite Faiseuse de livres” in Cahorswill present the steps of binding. Readings will be offered throughout the weekend. The Calligramme and “La Petite Faiseuse de Livres” bookstores in Cahors will have their stand.

Visitors will also be able to discover several artist exhibitions. Without forgetting the one made by the children of Arcambal schools, Daniel Roques from Pradines and Maurice Faure in Bégoux. Each year, workshops are organized in schools, which this year worked on the theme “Dreams and metamorphosis”. Final year students from the Saint-Étienne de Cahors high school will exhibit their bookbinding work.

The show is open on November 23 and 24 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Espace Culturel d'Arcambal. Free entry. Small catering on site
