Rizzoli: Robert Polidori: At the Louvre

published by Rizzoli, At the Louvre of Robert Polidori is an exclusive look at the preparations for the Naples in Paris exhibition at the Louvre, beautifully captured by photographer Robert Polidori.

From June 2023 to January 2024, the Louvre Museum in Paris hosted sixty major masterpieces from the Capodimonte Museum, loaned for the Naples exhibition in Paris: The Louvre welcomed the Capodimonte Museum. The former Italian royal palace, which once served as a hunting lodge for Bourbon monarchs, is today one of Italy’s largest museums, housing one of the continent’s most important collections of Italian paintings, drawings and sculptures . Among the works on display are the famous and enigmatic Antea by Parmigianino, a poignant painting of the Crucifixion by Masaccio, The Transfiguration of Christ by Giovanni Bellini and preparatory drawings by Raphael and Michelangelo.

On the occasion of this historic artistic exchange, the famous photographer Robert Polidori had exclusive access to the preparations for the exhibition in the prestigious Grande Galerie du Louvre. Known for his unique images of architecture and interiors, Polidori exquisitely captured the process and inner workings of the arrival, installation and exhibition of works of art. Part photographic monograph, part art history book, this unique publication reveals the hidden workings of one of the most important collaborative efforts between major museums in recent years.

Robert Polidori is one of the world’s most acclaimed architectural, interior and documentary photographers. His work is exhibited in numerous museums such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York and the Victoria & Albert Museum in London.

Laurence des Cars is the president and director of the Louvre.

Sébastien Allard is director of the paintings department at the Louvre and curator of the Naples exhibition in Paris.
