PORTRAIT – The author of The Art of Joy would have been 100 years old on May 10. His correspondence was published as well as an essay by his companion.

Goliarda Sapienza would have been 100 years old this year. She will be 72 for eternity. However, since his death in 1996, the author has enjoyed a second life in bookstores. His novel The Art of Joy, a cardinal title in his work, has reached more than half a million readers since its publication in France in 2005. A miracle when we know that the said work was refused many times during the writer’s lifetime and that he ended up falling into a two-decade purgatory. But we’ll come back to that. This month, Frédéric Martin, the French publisher behind the success of L’Italienne, closes the edition of his complete works with two poignant books published by Tripode. The first, Mirrors of timelists the correspondence of Goliarda Sapienza, the second is soberly entitled Goliarda, and it is signed Angelo Pellegrino.
