The gallery Viltin from Budapest presents Permutationan exhibition of Péter Tímár as part of the Budapest Photo Festival 2024 program. The photographer writes:
I also learned that you have to strive for the best. Just as the actor’s job is to find the best tone of voice, the best gesture, it is the same for the photographer who searches for the “best” moment, the best angle, the best framing, the best tone. But often, that’s not what interests me. For years I regularly attended theater rehearsals because what intrigued me more was the multitude of possibilities, the way a role could or could have been played, rather than the decided, final, perfect performance. Likewise, it brings me joy to read manuscripts of poems, written and crossed out alternatives to familiar verses. As a photographer, it’s the visual possibilities that particularly excite me. Collective possibilities, like ART – whether a freely configurable sequence of story moments, a series of facial expressions or movements in an image detail. Or colors: who dares to claim to know the “true” colors of nature? I am not saying that things can be like this or like that, but rather that things are like this and like that, simultaneously, at the same time. The “permutation” is the series of these possibilities, and of the long series, only a part fits these finite expanses of walls. – Péter Timár
