Following the explosion that killed one person last night in the Guillemins district of Liège, fire and forensic experts went to the scene late Monday morning. The victim and the causes of the fire still need to be identified. According to the public prosecutor’s office, it is assumed that the victim is the resident of the apartment where the explosion took place because he has not responded to attempts to contact him since the tragedy, but this needs to be confirmed. As for the six people who were hospitalized for poisoning, they have all been able to leave the hospital.
This explosion took place this Sunday evening around 7:20 p.m. on the 2nd floor of a building located on Rue de Selys, near the Guillemins train station. The Liège police indicated that no adjacent buildings were affected. A security perimeter had quickly been set up to allow emergency services to intervene. The building was evacuated. A local resident still in shock testified: “We heard a loud bang, we were watching TV with my son, we saw and felt the explosion, the blast of the explosion”“It was a big bang,” adds another local resident, “we had a cloud of projectiles. It was very impressive. We were all scared, it was the gas I guess, we are not sure.“.
