Dutchwoman Chantalle Zijderveld, world record holder (1:10.99) since Tokyo, became Paralympic champion in 1:13.74 ahead of China’s Meng Zhang, 2nd in 1:15.05. Another Dutchwoman Lisa Kruger is 3rd in 1:17.14.

This is Tatyana Lebrun’s second appearance at the Paralympic Games. The swimmer from the Saint-Vith club finished 11th in the 100m breaststroke SB9 at the Tokyo Games where she was the youngest member of the Belgian delegation. Her best result at the World Championships is a 3rd place in 2022 in Funchal, Portugal.

Born with Larsen Syndrome, a genetic disease that affects bones and joints, Tatyana Lebrun has undergone several operations, particularly on her knees. Doctors told her that she would probably never be able to walk, so she turned to swimming at the highest level. After initially competing in the able-bodied circuit, a disqualification for a bad breaststroke movement made her turn to the disabled circuit.

Class SB9 is a class of breaststroke swimmers with a slight deficiency in one part of the lower body, between the hips and the feet.
