US President Donald Trump said on Tuesday, from the oval office, the immediate end of bombing against the Houthis in Yemen, saying that the rebels supported by Iran “capitulated” and expressed their desire to stop fighting. “They told us that they no longer want to fight, and we will respect this by stopping the bombing,” he said to journalists, adding that the Houthis promised not to attack ships in the Red Sea.

“They have flowed a lot of ships peacefully navigating, but I think it’s very positive,” said Trump, stressing that the objective of the American strikes, launched as part of the “Rough Rider” operation since March, was to stop these sea attacks. However, he did not mention whether the Houthis had undertaken to stop their attacks on Israel or alleged targets linked to the Jewish State. This decision comes after an intensive campaign of American strikes, costing nearly a billion dollars, which caused significant losses, including more than 70 dead in a raid on the port of Ras Isa in April.
