Three people died and nine are actively sought after, two children, after a boat turned off California, the authorities said on Monday.
The coast guard was alerted around 6:30 a.m. local time (3:30 p.m. Swiss) of a boat in difficulty, near Del Mar, north of the Californian city of San Diego, said its spokesperson Hunter Schnabel.
A boat and a helicopter were dispatched to the scene, where four people were saved and taken to the hospital. Three other passengers were “located and found deceased,” added the spokesperson.
-The survivors said that nine people were missing, including two children. The starting point of the boat or its destination are still unknown.
The spokesperson for the Coast Guard told local media “Los Angeles Times” that it was a boat with a high bow generally used for fishing, but also by migrants seeking to reach the United States from Mexico.
“Some individuals could be of Indian nationality,” added the spokesperson, while the rescue operation is undergoing its course.
