Seasonal trends –Will Switzerland know a period of drought this summer?

Will the year 2025 be that of drought? The question may arise, given the temperatures currently observed. Indeed, so far, 2025 has been a year very dry. And this, despite the heavy rains recorded during the Easter weekend.
With the high temperatures this week, sometimes reaching 28 degrees, it seems to be confirmed. In addition, the level of lakes and rivers is currently very low, particularly in northern Europe, especially because of an arid start of spring.
Fresh temperatures soon back
For Nicolas Borgognon, forecastist at Meteonews, the next few weeks will therefore be decisive: “If the weather remains dry, we are quickly likely to go into drought.” But this warm and sunny weather should not last long. “From Sunday, the situation should clearly deteriorate.”

Indeed, “depression will be housed in southeast Europe, which will bring rains on German-speaking Switzerland. Temperatures will also become cooler, ”adds the forecaster. Which is rather good news, because overseas the current drought has been much more felt.
The models provide a hot and dry summer
According to Nicolas Borgnon, it should therefore not be put the cart before the oxen: “It is a little too early to decide on the rest.” However, seasonal models provide for months of July and August summer. But that does not necessarily announce a dry time.
Finally, “seasonal forecasts tend to announce hot summers without precipitation. Despite everything, you have to wait to see what will be really going on. In addition, it could be that a stormy trend is looming for the month of June, ”concludes Nicolas Borgnon. This could therefore bring its batch of rain, so that the lakes find lower levels.
