German interior intelligence temporarily suspended, Thursday, May 8, its ranking of the alternative party for Germany (AFD) as a group “Convenient right -wing extremist”while waiting for justice, seized by the party, makes its decision. This suspension will be worth until the Cologne Administrative Court decides on the summary proceedings submitted by AFD, which disputes the decision of the internal intelligence services (BFV), the court said in a press release.
Consequently, the BFV will withdraw from its site the press release of May 2 concerning this classification, and the increased police supervision of the party, permitted by this evaluation, cannot be implemented at this stage.
The announcement Friday of this new categorization of the party, which came second in the legislative elections, had the effect of a bomb, a few days before the inauguration of the new German Chancellor, Friedrich Merz. The decision also provoked strong political tensions, especially in relations with the Trump administration, which has taken up the cause for AFD.
Report of more than a thousand pages
For their evaluation, the intelligence services were based on an internal report of more than a thousand pages carried out over several years. He concluded in particular that the ideology of AFD “Devaluates whole groups of the population in Germany and undermines their human dignity”which is not “Not compatible with the fundamental democratic order”.
AFD co -presidents, Tino Chrupalla and Alice Weidel, was aware of the suspension of the new ranking of their party on Thursday, seeing a “Partial victory against services” intelligence.
