A jury will be formed in the fall to analyze the proposals received. The name will be revealed later, either in or in the summer of 2026.

The project is advancing well

The of this mega project of $ 2.24 billion is evaluated between 60 and 65%. The Quebec CHU will take possession of the keys in December 2026, but the patients were expected in the fall of 2027, once the running -in is finished. Meanwhile, you have to find a name for this ultramodern “ ” hospital.

“It has become obvious to us that the choice of this new name must be made collectively,” said Christine Mimeault, Deputy Director General of the Quebec-University CHU Laval.

For the occasion, the CHU is looking for a name that will be unifying.

“In toponymy, unlike different major projects that you have seen in Quebec lately, we promote the suburban approach. (…) Some pavilions already have a toponymy, but what we are looking for is a name for the whole site that will also recognize our heritage, ”added Ms. Mimeault.

Ultimately, the new complex will bring together the activities of the Hôtel-Dieu de Québec and the Child-Jesus hospital on the same site, including the Pierre-Péladeau integrated center of cancerology. To ensure the toponymic continuity of the site and honor its historical heritage, the existing child-Jesus hospital will keep its name to become the pavilion of the Jesus Child.

The project of new hospital complex continues to progress on the site of the hospital of the child-Jesus, as we can see in this photo of March 2025. Not necessarily secular

“We are very confident that we are going to have something extraordinary,” added Jean-Thomas Grantham, assistant to the CEO-Public Affairs, Government of the Quebec-University University CHU.

The secular character of the future name is not a criterion for submitting a proposal. Besides, even if it embarks on this vast process, the CHU does not intend to replace the names of its institutions with a religious connotation, such as the Saint-François d’Assise hospital or the Saint-Sacrement hospital.

«Dre Levasseur left a contribution to extraordinary Quebec. This name is not excluded and has never been excluded. (…) I expect this proposal to be subject to consultation and it will be studied like the others. It is a name that is worth watching, ”said Grantham.
