We do not also easily turn the competition sport page after playing nearly 1000 matches in the National League, more than half of which in the Geneva-Servette jersey (626 games).
Just retired from the rinks since March with a title of Swiss champion, a triumph in Champions Hockey League and two victories at the Spengler Cup at his record, Arnaud Jacquemet remains in his element and at the very heart of what he knows best: the GSHC. His sporting retirement in two stages, marked first by a last sumptuous glance at Vernets against Lugano on February 27 (a goal), then by a final career match in Bern on the 1is March, was not a farewell, but a reinvention after twelve intense and striking seasons in the jersey Geneva-Servette.

From the 1stis May, Jacquemet takes advantage of his know-how on ice and his management knowledge to defend the cause of the GSHC in a new way: as secretary general. The 37-year-old Valaisan will link between the management of Geneva-Servette, the sports sector and the administration. “I am very grateful to the opportunity that is offered to me to continue to work within the structure of Geneva-Servette. I am delighted to meet the challenges that await us and actively contribute to the growth of the club, in order to allow it to find the place it deserves. ”
Successful professional transition
This transition, well prepared upstream, was made naturally. For years, Jacquemet juggled between the ice rink and the benches of the university to obtain his bachelor in international management. “Everything is going well and I easily started this new chapter of my existence. The transition from the locker room to the office has been done without difficulty: in the past five or six seasons, I used to spend my afternoons in the classrooms as part of my studies. From now on, I feel good in my new role, confirms Jacquemet. I had a little time, after my last career match, to prepare for this big change. A team trip to Amsterdam and a family getaway to Disneyland, Paris, allowed me to turn the page and blow a little before embarking on this new adventure. And since last Thursday, here I am in the Geneva-Servette offices! ”
Thanks in particular to a two -week internship in the various departments of the club last year, Jacquemet found himself in familiar ground from his beginnings in this new professional life. “I already knew a lot of people in offices. As for my former teammates, all were very happy for me. For my part, I know that it is a very good opportunity and a great chance in a personal capacity, ”he admits.
“Many things to learn”
The former garnet defender is supported by John Schmalz, who hit this position so far as an temporary basis. “He accompanies me in my first steps and his experience as well as his support are extremely important. The field is relatively large, there are a lot to learn and discover, even if I already knew many aspects in theory following my studies in this branch. ”
Perfect trilingual and armed with a bachelor in international management, Jacquemet has everything to succeed. The former defender is cut for the function. “He is the ideal person to occupy the post of secretary generalunderlined the president of Geneva-Servette, Philippe Baechler, on the GSHC website. His attachment to the club, his values and his management training are real assets for the GSHC. His arrival in the direction of the club is part of our desire to keep the strong elements within the GSHC, those who were able to wear the garnet colors during their careers. ” Like the former Eigles Eliot Berthon striker, retired after the 2023 historic historical title, who now held a position in the commercial field.
Cut for this role with Geneva-Servette
In club offices in La Praille, Jacquemet rubs shoulders with sports director Marc Gautschi daily, responsible for everything related to the sporting aspect. In his role as secretary general, Jacquemet is more the relay of the GSHC board of directors.
Although their functions differ, the sharing of the same workspace will undoubtedly allow them to discuss the club’s sporting challenges while respecting their respective roles. “Marc [Gautschi] is the person I meet the most so far. But we haven’t really had the opportunity to discuss hockey so far. For my part, I still have so much to discover internally to best exercise my function. ”
Between distance and proximity
Arnaud Jacquemet did not completely drop sport. “I take advantage of the noon break to train in fitness. This allows me to take an active break and keep myself in shape. As for the link with the GSHC locker room, it is obviously always present. I come across the players from time to time and I have kept many contacts with those that I had been rubbing shoulders for a long time. Over time and as part of my new professional activity, I will of course have to maintain a certain distance from the team. But this will certainly be done quite naturally, I am sure. Anyway, I will continue to go and see the matches, even if it will certainly be a little difficult at first. I will remain the first supporter of the GSHC! ”
Natural leader and model teammate when he wore the Eagles jersey, Jacquemet discovers a new field of responsibility internally of his heart club. And he already promised, when he was announced as his appointment as secretary general, to do his work with the same seriousness and the same determination as when he wore the colors of Geneva on the ice. Here is a guarantee of success for the GSHC.
