The test organized in Jerez the day after the GP of Spain last week saw the Yamaha pilots test an engine evolution deemed positive. “It’s been a long time since I had had such a feeling with the motorcycle”, Enthusiastic Fabio Quartararo, author of very good times like his teammate Álex Rins.
The Frenchman had shown good sensations with this engine, the first work carried out on the adjustments which allowed to quickly arrive at interesting performance. Power gain, improved top speed of 2 km/h and preserved agility: the M1 had convinced its drivers. However, both waited to confront this novelty with the reality of a Grand Prix, with more realistic adhesion conditions than that of a post-course test, and this will therefore be the case this week.
Yamaha indeed confirmed that he had put in his luggage for Le Mans this engine evolution, provided to the two pilots. It is not excluded that Pramac Racing also receives it, the Italian team having mentioned the possibility that some of the last developments tested in Jerez is introduced this week.
By finding a circuit which often responded well to the character of the M1 and reported to the brand ten victories, Yamaha displays his motivation. The results of Jerez are also there for many, since Quartararo has returned to pole position and the podium, before this very encouraging test.
“I am very happy to have signed a pole and a second place in Jerez before this round”, rejoices French. “We have to focus on the work to be done this weekend. The positive results obtained during the race weekend and the Jerez test have boosted the team well, and I am curious to see how the new engine will behave in Le Mans. I can’t wait to start!”

“The pole position and the second place of the GP of Spain show an upward trajectory and were followed by a successful test to Jerez”, Summarizes Massimo Meregalli, director of the official team. “We are really impatient to start the weekend, with the same objectives: to maintain this positive trend, and our first objective is to have the two pilots in Q2.”
“We progressed during the Jerez test last week, and we will again assess what we found in Le Mans”, continues tox Rins. “We will ride with the new engine that we tried for the first time during the IRTA test. This Grand Prix will therefore be very important to collect data that will allow us to start our private tests in Misano, next week, with a good amount of information.”
Thanks to the concessions from which Yamaha benefits, Fabio Quartararo and Álex Rins will indeed be in Misano just after the GP of France in order to take part in a private test and to continue the development of the motorcycle. It is unknown at the moment if they will also have the opportunity to try the V4 engine that Yamaha is currently developing and of which an arrival in the race from 2025 is mentioned, possibly through a Wild-Card.
