Iran unveiled a new ballistic missile on Sunday of a range of 1,200 kilometers, announced a state media, when Western countries are worried about the advances of the Ballistic program of the Islamic Republic.
“The Solid Propeergol Ballistic Missile Ghassem Bassir, with a range of at least 1,200 kilometers, is the last Iranian achievement in defense,” said state television.
Western countries are concerned about the advances of the Iran ballistic program, accused of destabilizing the Middle East and whose technical capacity of missiles places Israel, its sworn enemy, within fire.
State television broadcast images of the shot of the new missile during an interview with the Minister of Defense, General Aziz Nassirzadeh.
“If we are attacked and a war is triggered against us, we will ride by force and target their interests and their bases,” he said.
“We have no animosity towards neighboring countries, but the American bases are our targets,” he added.
The presentation of the new missile occurs while Tehran and Washington have hired talks under Oman’s mediation since April 12, the first at this level since Washington’s withdrawal in 2018, during President Donald Trump’s first term, of an international agreement concluded three years earlier.
In early May, the American Secretary of State Marco Rubio urged Iran to “abandon the construction of long -range missiles which have no other goal than to have nuclear weapons”, during an interview with Fox News.
For his part, Israeli Prime Minister Benyamin Netanyahu had called on April 27 to conclude an agreement with Tehran who “eliminates the capacity” of Iranium enrichment of Iran and who deprives Iran of ballistic missiles.
Tehran excluded any discussion with Washington on military and defense capacities, including its ballistic program.
Trump threatened to bomb Iran in the event of diplomacy failure and took additional sanctions against the Iranian oil sector.
Iran had unveiled another ballistic missile of a claimed range of 1,700 kilometers in early February during a ceremony in Tehran.
