The government is currently studying the possibility of launching a second phase of the to reduce territorial and social disparities in rural areas, said on Monday 05 May at the House of Representatives, the Minister of Agriculture, Maritime Fisheries, Rural Development and Water and Forests, Ahmed El Bouari.

In response to a question on the development of rural areas, posed by the Authenticity and Modernity Group, Mr. El Bouari said that the study of the launch of this second phase comes because of the great success of the program and its positive impact on the population of the rural , as well as its significant social and economic dimensions.

For the Minister, it is the “largest rural development program that our country has known”, with a budget of 48 billion dirhams. The said program, he recalled, targeted 1,243 territorial municipalities and 140 rural centers, for the benefit of more than 14 million inhabitants.

In addition, Mr. El Bouari highlighted the main achievements of this program, in particular the construction of more than 22,000 kilometers of rural roads and tracks, the extension of the drinking water supply network over 1,091 kilometers, with the realization of 30,111 connection operations and 680 drinking water supply systems.

He also said that 1,135 douars were connected to and that the electrical network was extended over 1,070 kilometers, in addition to 4,142 operations on the construction, reconstruction, extension or maintenance of schools, as well as 943 operations related to the construction or rehabilitation of health centers and dispensaries.
