(Update to say that the fire is turned off)
A fire that broke out in the Benicia Valero refinery (California), with a capacity of 145,000 barrels per day, was extinguished, the company said on Monday.
“All the staff was found and no one injured is to be deplored. The cause of the incident is the subject of an investigation,” added the company in a statement sent by email.
Valero said she was continuing to coordinate with local and state authorities.
Earlier in the day, before the fire was extinguished, Benicia’s fire service said that the Bay Area Air Quality Management District and Public Health Solano deployed portable air monitors in neighboring communities in order to test potential pollution.
In April, Valero Energy VLO.N announced that it would stop its activities in its oil refinery in the San Francisco region next year, due to the concerns aroused by the decrease in fuel reserves in California and the high prices of gasoline.
