Morocco takes a decisive step in its development trajectory. According to the latest World Development World Development, published this Tuesday, May 6, 2025 in New York by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), the kingdom officially joins the category of high human development countries, thanks to a human development index (HDI) which now exceeds the 0.700 threshold.
The National Observatory for Human Development (ONDH) stressed in a press release, that this improvement in the HDI results from a sustained dynamic, reflecting significant progress in the three fundamental dimensions of human development, in particular health, education and the standard of living. The pace of this growth remains solid, illustrating a progressive structural transformation of living conditions.
Thus, ONDH attributes this progression to the continuous improvement of certain basic indicators, in particular life expectancy at birth and the number of years of expected education. These developments have played a decisive role in improving the human development index (HDI), reflecting the kingdom’s sustained efforts in terms of social development.
In addition, the global report grants this advance to public policies oriented towards strengthening human capital, considered as an essential condition for ensuring both inclusive and sustainable growth. It is also underlined a continuous decrease in the index of gender inequality (GII), which reflects a gradual improvement in matters of gender equality.

At the same time, the report positions Morocco among countries with a low incidence of multidimensional poverty; An indicator that illustrates the improvement of the living conditions of a large fringe of the population and testifies to the advances recorded in recent years in terms of human development.
This report, entitled “A question of choice: people and possibilities in the era of artificial intelligence”, highlights the fundamental role of freedom of choice in human development, and explores the way in which artificial intelligence can be a lever. He insists on the idea that the future is not written in advance and that current decisions can deeply guide progress.
