In the 1960s, malaria was down. This continued until global eradication efforts were interrupted in 1969, leading to the loss of millions of lives. It took 30 years for the to mobilize again against this . Let’s not let history are repeated.

On the occasion of the World Day for the Fight against Malaria 2025, WHO, the RBM partnership to end malaria and other partners are joining forces to promote the “Reinvest, Reimagine and Revive our common efforts to put an end to malaria”, a community initiative aimed at revitalizing efforts at all levels – of global policies to local action – progress faster towards the elimination of malaria.

The international community has re -engaged in the fight against malaria in the late 1990s. Result: approximately 2.2 billion cases and 12.7 million deaths were avoided over more than 20 years. But after years of regular improvements, progress has slowed down. , malaria kills approximately 1 person each , the majority of deaths occurring in the WHO region.

The hard -made achievements obtained over the decades are in danger and it seems difficult to make progress. Extreme climatic events, conflicts, humanitarian emergencies and economic tensions disrupt control efforts in many endemic countries, hampering dozens of millions of people to the services necessary to prevent, detect and treat the disease. Without rapid treatment, malaria can quickly evolve towards a serious form and lead to death.

It is time to re -engage to end malaria. We have knowledge, vital tools and targeted prevention, detection and treatment methods to overcome this disease. We must reinvest in proven interventions, re -imagine our strategies to overcome current obstacles and rekindle our efforts, alongside countries and communities, in order to progress faster towards the elimination of malaria.

We know how to end malaria. The choice to us: act now or risk losing ground. The elimination of malaria is not only a public health priority: it is an investment for a more equitable, safer and more prosperous future for all nations.
