LE June 15, 2023, the Senate unanimously voted a bill amending the public Health code for the establishment of a national register of adult cancers. With 157,000 annual deaths, cancer is the leading cause of premature mortality in France. According to the National Cancer Institute, the incidence of cancers in France has doubled between 1990 and 2023. The World Health Organization announces, moreover, that this exponential increase should continue with a jump of 77 % of new cases by 2050. About half of the increase in the number of patients is not due to demographic elements (more numerous and older population), but in part upwards.

Faced with this worrying upsurge, patient associations and doctors wonder. In the current state of knowledge, 38.6 % of cancers are attributable to tobacco, alcohol, unbalanced food and obesity.
