During this meeting, Ms. Driouich highlighted the excellence of fishery cooperation between Morocco and Japan, and welcomed the historic support of Japan as the first funder of the Moroccan sea fisheries sector, and a reference partner for more than 40 years, said a statement from the State Secretariat.
Thus, the two parties welcomed the quality of bilateral relations, which resulted in many major projects, especially the most recent, the construction of the Al Hassan Al Hassan Al Marrakchi Oceanographic Research Ship (funded by a Japanese loan in 2018), the realization of the development project of the new Generation Fisherman Village of Souiria K’dima (2024-2027) and the development project for aquaculture for blue growth ( implementation lessons).
The discussions also focused on the revival of the tripartite cooperation program for training between Morocco, Japan and other African countries (PRECAF II project), which aims to strengthen the capacities of African nationals in the fishery sector.
-In addition, Ms. Driouich and Mr. Masahiro stressed the importance of continuing to promote multilateral coordination within the regional and international organizations concerned by fishing, fishery resources and ocean issues.
In addition, the exchanges focused on the fishing agreement, with a view to preparing the next session of the annual consultation, scheduled for this year in Tokyo.
At the end of this meeting, the two parties expressed their common desire to give new dynamics to their fishery cooperation and to explore new forms and new fields of cooperation, while considering natural and governance changes worldwide.
